Spring Final is an in class Final starting May 10th, 2018. We will be drawing our own mandalas using color pencil and Bristol board paper. Schedule is: May 10th, May 11th, May 14th, May 15th, May 16th, May 18th, May 21st, and the actual school Final time per class. It is an 8 day final. Students can come in after school to make up an absence until May 21st. Finals are worth 20% of the semester's grade.
Kites- First we made mini prototypes of the diamond kite and the sled kite. When there is wind, we fly our kites. Now, students are designing and making their own kite- 18" to 24" size.
April 2018- International Artist Project: Students chose and researched an artist outside of the United States and used one of their works as inspiration.
Menhdi designs using henna are predominately used in India and surrounding countries for brides and their wedding parties. We used marker on vinyl gloves filled with plaster of paris.
Illuminated Letters were predominately used during the Middle Ages by monks to copy pages of the Bible.

Happy New Year! We are starting with Chinese Brush painting- pandas, bamboo plants, roses, and grass blades. Students are learning how to use india ink and water.

Art students have already started their Final on Monday, 12/5/17. It is a 2 project final for 12 days. They have been given the directions and rubric to follow. Below is the Final schedule. It is an in class Final. If a student needs to be absent, they can make up the work after school. Please let the teacher know about after school arrangements.

Independent Projects-Fall
Completed Knitted Sampler pieces, hackeysacks, juggling balls, and finger knitted animals.

Students started with learning the knit/garter stitch by making book marks. Then, they made a sampler that included purl stitch, stockinette pattern, ribbing, and binding off. Some students worked independently exploring finger knitting. They made flowers and rabbits. Currently, students are starting to make hackeysacks and juggling balls. Crochet students are making scarfs.
Honor Myself Projects.
Students practiced using a variety of media and techniques before doing their Honor Myself projects.
As of 8/25/17, the Sketchbook assignment will be changed to bellwork at the beginning of each Art class rather than homework. The time will be 5 minutes instead of 10 minutes. The remainder of the following will still apply.
Sketchbook Assignment:
- To sketch 10 minutes a day, Monday thru Friday. (Suggestion, the last 15 minutes of study hall.
- Can work from images, imagination, or actual life object (ie. your hand, books, or bag).
- Can keep working on the same drawing till completed. Please take a picture after each drawing session to document work. Student will need the picture and sketchbook in art class each day, so the teacher can see progress.
- Can write a short passage that goes with the art.
- Can use: any or all- pencil, pen, oil pastel, color pencil.
- Object need to be different from drawing to drawing. Remember, the student will be choosing which 3 drawing to expand on for their Fall Final.

Welcome to Fall 2017. This semester we will be exploring giving through art. In the spring, we will be traveling around the world through art.
