Art Syllabus 2021
Mrs. Dikinis: [email protected]
What is Art?
Art production – making art (painting, drawing, multi-media, sculpture, etc.).
Aesthetics – discussing and writing what we think art is.
Art Criticism - looking at artwork, discussing it, and writing analytically about it.
Art History – reading, talking, and writing about the lives of artists and art
periods.
Art Policies and Procedures
Please read the following. It is your responsibility to know these policies.
- Class starts right away. Go to your Art Google Classroom then… Students are to
complete the Attendance Google Form. Mrs. Dikinis will put in attendance onto Family Link. Mrs.
Dool will be calling parents during the first class period of any student absent.
- Respectful handling of art supplies or tools is very important for an art class.
Each art tote bag is filled with items that you will need this semester. Please do
not use these items for other classes or let other people use your art supplies. I
will not be replenishing the art tote bags until next semester. You are responsible
for keeping track of the whereabouts of your art tote bag. Keep your art tote bag
in a safe place away from very young siblings and any pets.
- Respect each other and everyone’s projects. We all have valuable input, please
be supportive of whoever is speaking/chatting.
- Appropriate language and images are expected in our class. No graphic images
or drug/alcohol images are accepted.
Grading
Art Projects will be 20 – 300 points (depending on time and intricacy)
Class work includes *participation
Each semester final will be worth 20% of the whole semester grade.
On the Google Classroom
assignment posted each day, it will say how much time is expected to work on
something, take a picture and attach it to the assignment.
Do not worry if you have not taken an art class before. Grades are based on the
process of making art and doing whatever is being asked for through Google
Classroom. There is no reason not to earn an A or B.
Please email me or send a video of any questions or concerns. My work hours
will be 7:45am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Period 3 is my planning time, no
class then.
I am looking forward to having art class with you.
Mrs. Dikinis
*Participation- is a part of Class work. That a student is in their art class and doing the work assigned that class period. This is worth 20 points a day. There is something assigned everyday for approximately 35 minutes. If students do not attend mandatory zoom meetings, they will miss valuable instructions of what the class is doing. Students who do not attend, most times are lost right away and even if they think they know what is going on will miss a step or two or three.
Mrs. Dikinis tries to grade within an hour or 2 of each class. If the student sees a zero, that means she has already graded. Please email her if late work is attached to assignment. The student's email is the notification. If a student has questions about the day's assignment, the fastest way to get an answer is to email, Mrs. Dikinis- [email protected], right when there is a question. Why be frustrated? get help as soon as possible. :)
If a student needs to be absent, please email Mrs. Dikinis to let her know and to make arrangements on how to make up the work.
If a student doesn't make up missed work, it will be a zero for that day.
